Color Me Rad Tips

Color Me Rad was awesome, but here are some tips for those running in it (or another color run) in the future!
  • Wear lots and lots of white! Go crazy! I wish I had worn white knee high socks with the white racerback tank I made (courteous of Pinterest).
  • If you're sensitive to your skin being covered with color (it comes off after a few showers) then wear long sleeves and pants... just make sure they're white :-)
  • Be goofy! Funky sunglasses (they gave us some great ones!), tutus, etc.
  • WEAR SUNGLASSES - it will get in your eyes
  • Keep your mouth closed when running through color stations... it doesn't taste good. (sorry to the little girl who I accidentally gave a mouthful of color to)
  • Bring baby wipes to clean up your hands.. or attempt to (especially if you have to drive!)
  • Bring a trash bag (and have easy access to it) for after -- you will want to take as much clothing off as possible before getting into your car
  • Bring a towel or old blanket to sit on in the car
  • MAKEUP remover - unless you want to go out to lunch after showering and still look like you have a black eye or bruise on your forehead
  • Wear your old shoes
  • Bring a photographer or put your camera in a ziploc bag (or two)
  • MOST IMPORTANT: make a plan to immediately shower afterwards... or go hang out in a field where you don't care about color ruining everything you touch!
It's a BLAST! HAVE FUN!

Color Me Rad

This past weekend, we loaded up and hit the road to Richmond for the Color Me Rad 5K. Andy’s cousin just moved his girlfriend Rachel here from Colorado. Months ago Rachel and I signed up to run the race together! The guys tagged along (thank goodness, because we needed them after the race so we didn’t run everything purple and blue!). We also met up with a friend of mine who now lives in Richmond.

The race was HUGE (sold out) and the MC was hilarious. The race itself was super easy (it did NOT feel like 3.1 miles) but sadly we spent a lot of time walking because of the masses (and congestion at the color stations throughout).

We had a blast getting completely covered in color (even in my ears!). It was great having the guys along too (although I think I accidentally got color on babe more times than he would’ve liked!).

Afterwards we hit the Cheesecake Factory! Who thankfully has a skinnylicious menu now (okay so items are still just under 590 calories… but imagine how many calories the rest of the menu is!). I had a great spicy chicken salad… and ate every last bite! Yum!

Color Me Rad

I hadn’t even completed my first 5K yet and I’d already signed up for another one.

Honestly my plan was to sign up for a 10K in July (which I still hope to do) but I ended up signing up for a 5K color run with my soon-to-arrive (just a couple more months) running buddy. Andy’s cousin is moving his girlfriend, Rachel, from Colorado to VA in June and she’s a runner! I’m excited for Rachel to arrive and really excited to do this fun run with her & other Valley girls! I don’t think this run is for a challenge, I don’t think they even time you, it’s more "let’s go run around and get blasted with color!"

Ummm doesn't that picture look amazing?! Andy would say $%#* no. His exact words were something like "I might run a 5K with you, but not one where they stuff at you"... what, see that sounds AMAZING to me.

I’m planning to do the Color Blast 5K in D.C. in September as well with my BFF from JMU!

I'm thinking the iphone might not be safe with all the color getting thrown around... I might need to see if my old ancient ipod still works for this race...
