This week, I can tell I’ve been getting stronger as a
runner. And it’s not just because I completed a 10 mile run (woo-hoo, still
happy about that!).
Monday I took the morning off since I had my long run
Sunday. Tuesday morning I had no running buddy to meet and needed to leave
earlier than I usually leave for work for an eye appointment. I wasn’t willing
to just scratch my running but I was also nervous because it was my first
before work solo run and I’d been running with a buddy every run for the last
week. Something about going out solo always makes me nervous that I’ll hate
every step and stop (it’s always mental with me).
So I got up at my now normal 5:15 and headed to the park. I
decided to just do the park loops since I was on my own and there weren’t a lot
of people out around town (safety). I had decided that whatever I did, I had to
run 3 miles. Again, I really thought every step was going to be torture since I’ve
been lucky to run with a friend so much lately.
It ended up being quite the opposite! I felt great, missed
the chatter, but enjoyed being alone with my thoughts. I also felt strong, it
felt, dare I say, easy? I'm sure I'll pay for saying that.
