It's Official...

I'm officially Mrs. Kania.

I have filed the paperwork with the Social Security office for a name change and new card.

Apparently that's step 1 of 97843234 steps to changing your name.

Why has this taken me 2 months (tomorrow will be 2 months!)?

First, our marriage license took over a month to get recorded... To make a long story short I thought the envelope was pre-paid postage so I didn't put a stamp on it when I gave it to Joel {who married us} to sign & mail. He didn't notice either and dropped it in the mail without a stamp. IF you have ever done this before {which I did once with the mortgage} it takes FOREVER to come back to you.

Seriously, forever. The people at the Clerk's office knew me by name when I called in twice a week to see if it had arrived. Then it finally came back to Joel, he re-mailed it and it finally arrived at the clerk's office... great right?

Well... Joel had missed the line asking for his address. And the Clerk's office wouldn't just fill it in. So Joel had to make time to go to the Clerk's office and sign the document. I started to wonder if this was some divine intervention trying to stop our marriage. Joel sweetly assured me that we WERE married!

So after all of that, I had to go to Social Security office as Step 1 (before DMV, the bank, etc, etc). And man, I want to work at the social security office... their office hours are 9-4. Seriously?! Who in the world can get to an office between 9am and 4pm... oh wait, that's right, old retired people can. So then it took another couple weeks of juggling my schedule around to make it to the office.

But today, I finally did it. I had an appointment so I knew I'd be late to work anyways. It took 5 mins and I still can't understand why things like that cannot be done online...

So next step will be finding the time to go to DMV. And I can't just run in there any old time I have an extra second because 1) they take foreverrrrrr and 2) I have to have pretty hair that day {picture time!}.

The best trip to DMV was my 21st birthday {yes, I went on my birthday to get my license changed} and I knew the girl working and she took my picture and SHOWED it to me first to make sure I liked it {of course I didn't, so we took another one}. That was DMV heaven.

I hate when they snap your photo and don't show it to you for approval... c'mon now!

So I'm sure the DMV will make its way into another post {probably how much I hate my photo}, but until then just call me MRS. Kania... finally!

  1. I feel your pain with the name change game. It's taken forever...no one in Australia believes our marriage license is legit. Good luck! And Congrats!!! :)
